Alex sat casually in the sand of the Harbor, his novice cloak collecting sand in its rolled up ball beside him. Situated next to the cloak were his sandals, sand already in them. He was wearing a light linen shirt, the sleeves rolled up, and regular old trousers. Al's legs were stuck out infront of him, toes close to The teen was leaning on his hands, chin to his chest, and his eyes looking out to the sea.
Alex was being lazy, plain enough, for the past hour or so. He was practicing with his water manipulation. Instead he had watched the sunset, and now night was settling over the Harbor, as ships lights came on. Eventually he stood up, and walked closer to the tide, his feet now touching the wet sand. Quietly, he dipped closer, and stretched his hands out. One last spell before turning into the night.
As the tide ascended the shoreline, he used his magic to direct the water around himself. In doing such, he stayed dry as the waves came in. With a cock-eyed smile, he backed up away from the water, and stood where the water has not yet reached.

Cahira staggered through the twisted alleys of the city, a half-empty bottle of whiskey in one hand. What was not swishing about in the bottle felt as though it was sloshing between her ears, making her head feel heavy and her footing unsteady.
Suddenly, she found herself standing before the harbor, blinking owlishly at the expanse of water in front of her. Stumbling down to the edge of the water, she peered out at the twinkling lights. They blurred and danced in her eyes, making dizzy. With a thump, she fell into a sitting position, letting out an "oof."
Looking around again, Cahira saw someone standing at the water line, no, beyond it. She squinted, trying to decide whether or not her eyes decieved her. It was a young man, and the water seemed to refuse to touch him, bending around his bare feet. It was the oddest thing she had ever seen. Shaking her head in bewilderment, she took another swig from her bottle. |

Alex crossed his arms of her chest, kicking the grains of sand for a moment as his attention was distracted once again by the lights on the ocean. But no, he heard a noise, the sound of someone falling, came awhile ago. There was no one to one side, so he checked the other to spot a figure. His blue eyes watched it for a moment, taking a swig from a bottle. Probally alcohol. No one drank water like that. As the person did crane their neck back, he noticed the sloppy appearance of her pony tail. A girl probally.
He's never seen a girl drink like that either.
Alex's curiousity, which is as bad as a woman's, abandoned his sandals and cloak to get a closer look at what the night brought to him. Or to sound less conceited, whom wandered to the Harbor. "You all right there?" He called out, rather gentlemanly, too gentlemanly for his liking. Easily, he picked up a trot and now got a better view. It was a girl. And the smell of the whiskey had not yet reached him, his senses more focused on the salty air.
Slovenly, cocoa brown hair falls above the boy’s head as it skimmed across his eyebrows. His skin is an olive hue, fighting away the last of blemishes under his chin, where he had supported his head in the most boring of classes. Almond shaped eyes of a slate blue are well enough alive and healthy. The teenager’s form is tall and gangling, swaddled in the unloved ivory clothes of a novice, which he never can seem to keep clean. Although his age is almost of adulthood, his body and mind are not yet mature enough yet to face the trifling experiences of being by himself. |

Cahira watched the young man approach, and over teh sound of the tide heard him inquire if she was alright. "Wha' d'you care?" she yelled back. Her voice was hoarse and rough, as though she was not only drunk, but had been drunk for years.
As the boy drew closer, the young woman pushed herself up and staggered back a few steps, only to trip over her own feet and land in the sand again, this time landing on her back. Blinking, she pushed herself up to rest on her elbows.
Looking up, Cahira gave the young man a rather pathetic attempt at a glare. However, the haziness of her eyes and the unhappy pout of her lip made a mockery of the act. "Wha' d'you wan'?" she asked, squinting up at him. |

Alex straightened his back a bit, arms crossing over his chest as he watched the woman. He went to take a step foward to help her balance, but she only fell again. So he instead he stuck his hands into his pocket, thumb poking out. He quirked an eyebrow up as she once again questioned him. "Am I not allowed to ask? Not like its a fad for drunk people to come to the Harbor. If it was, I'd have a bottle same as you."
Any formity he had as a gentleman was gone. Why bother when the girl just going to be rude? "I want the answer to my questions." Blunt, and bleak. Had he known this person, he would've asked for a sip of the whiskey, to strike his feline curiousity, but one could never know. |

Cahira stuck her chin out stubbornly. "Nay, y' ain't," she replied. "But t' shut y' up, aye, I'm fine." Sarcasm lent an edge to her words. "Why wou'n't I be?" She tried to push herself up again while still looking him in the eye, but was no more successful than before.
Taking a swig from her bottle, the young woman allowed herself to fall all the way back onto the sand. The young man's form was growing hard to distinguish from the night sky as liquor blurred her sight. "Who are y' anyways?" she growled. "Why d' y' care?"
No one had honestly showed concern for her in many moons, so she viewed his as some sort of trickery. Mages were always playing games with the magicless. That was what he had to be, a mage, to bend the waves as he had. |

Alex and shut up, or be quiet, were two phrases that never went along. Constantly, he was known to excercise a right to speak. The teen knew the sarcasm all to well, as it was a tone he used quite often; it was his body in telling jokes. Perhaps if he knew Cahira, he wouldn't of asked at all. "Well, the staggering, the falling, they're just minor symptoms to clue me in." He began, the words rolling off his tongue.
"Alex." Obviousness was in his word, as he never really remembered having to introduce himself much. People always seemed to know him; then again this was his first year on his own. "Civil responsibility is why I care."

Cahira snorted. "'Ci'il 'sponsibility', huh?" she repeated disbelievingly. "Tha's a new 'un." She took another gulp. "Why can'' you just let me drin' myself out in peace li'e every'un else? Tha's all I wan'."
The young woman raised the bottle again, somehow making it seem like an act of defiance. With every swallow, the container got lighter as her eyelids felt heavier. She swigged down several mouthfuls before she had to stop for a breather. Her thin chest heaved as she caught her breath, looking up at Alex with a sneer. |

Alex tilted his head to the side as he kept his gaze head on at the woman. "'Ci'il 'sponsibility, huh?" The novice nodded his head once, not cluing in completely at hir disbelief, until, "That's a new 'un." The young mans eyes just rolled up vaguely to the top of his head, not that it could be seen beneath the frays of his bangs and the dark. Only half-listening like a teenager would to her little lecture. Marlaue crossed his arms over his chest, glancing to the surf as it came up and then down.
Then, the stranger sneered at him; Alex lifted the left side of his lips up in response, bright eyes narrowing. Flea-bitten wench, he thought, rather bitterly. All he was trying to do was help - what was so wrong with that? Winding Circle was all about helping; kind of hard to when those who he could help didn't want any. Lame. Picking up his cloak, letting it swing over his shoulder; he was getting to leave the beach. A rude, drunk woman tended to spoil the calm atmosphere.
As he walked by, kicking the sand up in large chunks, he purposely let some drag onto the female's bottle. Oops. Heavy liquor didn't interest him much anyways, so it was no great loss. After the little "accidental" deed was done, he kept on walking, a short smirk on his face. She deserved it. Somewhat. |

Cahira coughed when sand went flying, then wiped her eyes with a grimy hand and looked into her bottle. "You bastard," she spat angrily, somehow managing to stand. "Y' did that on purpose." Swaying drunkenly, she pulled out a long curved knife that had been thrust through the piece of rope that served as her belt. Staggering towards the young man, obviously intent on harm, she tripped and fell, her weapon skittering harmlessly across the sand.
Pushing herself up onto all fours, the young woman was about to get up when she turned a decidedly unhealthy color. Wretching, she emptied her stomach onto the sand, then passed out, lying in her own vomit. |

Alex was quite pleased with himself as he continued to walk, turning his eyes to the side (but not looking behind himself) as he heard the drunk exclamation. It was like music: only badly created music, with the viols whining and woodwinds squeaking. "Y' did that on purpose". The teenager couldn't help to look back at the female, a know-it-all smirk on his face. "Your Welcome." He told her idly, before turning around to continue is way back to Winding Circle. As the novice walked, he was quite unaware that she had intent on harming him.
Somewhere from behind himself, Alex heard the most disliked sound: purging. Curiousity killed the cat; the novice turned around to look at what happened. His face turned upwards in disgust as he saw the drunkard lying in her vomit; Satisfatction brought it back. After the initial disgust was through, he stiffled a snigger. That sucks. A stupid grin on his face, he let his cloak and shoes drop back down to the sand. Maybe he'll just help her. Then leave. Yes, he'll do that.
Walking a couple steps over, skirting around the purged liquour, he idly took a hold of her shirt with two hands - how disgusting it was! - and rolled her out of it. Letting go, he made another sneer of dislike, sticking out his tongue for good measure; nasty, she must be a street rat or something. He then peered down at her, pondering if she was fully passed out or going to stir in a moment. Alex would rather check before washing her off... a little bit. |

Cahira was indeed fully passed out. Her face was relaxed, though covered with vomit, and her body was completely limp as he rolled her over. If she had retained some of her senses she would have protested the rough handling and the snickering, but fortunately for Alex, she had temporarily left space and time for complete blackness.
The young woman’s life glinted in the moonlight from its resting place in the sand, safely out of her reach. Even if she had been awake, she would have lacked the coordination to retrieve it. |

Alex watched the tide come in, and with his magic, he seperated some of it from the ocean. It took a bit of energy, as most of it has been used today guiding water, but he was still up. Just, his eyelids started to feel a heavy, and he yawned halfway through. The water was in a sphere, hovering about the passed at woman. He was tempted to let the salty sea water fall onto her just like that, but he held himself back. Quietly, he began to refresh the water a bit, the tempature of the liquid slowly dropping as it was exposed in the air.
Once that was done, Alex admired the hovering ball of fresh liquid. From his expertese, as some would call it, the water ball seemed to far down to get the effect he wanted. It was a slow process, and thankfully not a long distance, before he got it to hover over her head. His equally blue eyes looked through the sphere of water, slightly distracted by how the skies clouds were magnified. The novice stood up for a moment, and slowly started to back away, keeping the water where it was.
Then, he let it cave inwards, the water sphere pouring onto the lass, gravity pulling it down quite quickly. A smirk was on his face as he watched his task be completed. If that didn't wake her up, it at least cleaned her off the worse of it. |

Cahira's eyes snapped open as she sputtered, drenched in the cold water. Swearing as she sat up, she wiped it from her nose and eyes, then groaned and held her head as her temples began to throb. The taste of liquor and vomit was still fresh in her mouth, and her now empty stomach was still churning.
Lying back down in the sand, the young woman curled up, one arm across her middle, the other covering her eyes. She didn't even notice Alex as she moaned quietly, feeling decidedly ill. |

Alex brought at hand up to his mouth to hide his smirk and muffle surpressed sniggering. The reaction was quite amusing on his part - lack of taking stuff seriously was great fun. On his part moreso than others. Crossing one arm over his torso, he watched the girl feel the affects of the drink. Why was he such a nice person? Stupid honest streak - it might be the death of him one day.
As the tide came back in, he withdrew some water again, cleaning it, and this sphere turned out much smaller then the other one. Stroding to the female, he put the small sphere to her face. "You might want to rinse - it'll taste better." |

Cahira slowly lowered the arm across her eyes and squinted at the sphere. Unless she was very much mistaken, water usually did not behave in such a manner. After a moment, she shook her head and closed her eyes again, mumbling something along the lines of a refusal. It seemed unnatural, and besides, how was one supoosed to drink a sphere.
"Go 'way," the young woman groaned. "I du' wanna deal w' you. I du' feel good." |
