Name: Kelandry Kirosi (to be called 'Kel')
Age: 15
Birthplace: Summersea (like Cahira)
History: Kel was born into a farly normal family, until her parents divorced. For years they had shouted and yelled at each other, their hatred and rage making their faces red as a tomato. Kel was often mad at them when they yelled, and sometimes even sad but she never showed it. Her face was always blank even when she was so mad she wanted to punch someone.
When her parents got divorced Kelandry lived with her dad. She was only 6 but her father made her do all the chores around the house. Her twin brother Neal was forced to work along side her and if either of them halted they would both get whipped. Kel's father began to drink rum and wine more and more and whipped them a lot. Still, Kel never showed her anger or sadness.
About the age of 8 strange things began to happen. When Kel would get very angry at her father she would hear thunder and lightning would strike. Once the lightning almost struck her father who was outside and Kel got very amused when it happened and though she tried to contain the laughter like she did anger and sadness she couldn't help herself and burst out laugh. She got whipped but after that when she was angry thunder would rumble and sometimes lightning would strike, happy there would be sun and such as. Soon she was able to make a little bit of thunder come even without her being angry!
Life was better with this new little power- even though she couldn't do much- but Kelandry had still had enough. At age 9 She packed up what supplies she would need- a blanket, some food and a journal to write in, and left. She walked for many days, not stopping except at night to sleep. She ate and drank very little. Finally one day Kel stopped at a house- who's house she did not know- and fell flat on her face on the porch steps from exhaustion, her mousy, long brown hair spread all over her face.
Kelandry woke several hours later, to the face of a strange woman. She offered Kel some soup which she took gladly and gulped down then went back to sleep. When she woke up again the woman explained to her about her powers. Kel was amazed, and wonderfully happy. She trained with the woman for a while in meditation then, shortly before her tenth birthday they went to Winding Circle where Kel promised herself she would never go back to the horrid life she had had before.
For 5 years she stayed at Winding Circle, in fact she is still there, loving the magic and all the people. Also getting into a fair bit 'o trouble.
Personality: Kel is not scared of magic. In fact she loves her magic more than anything. She thinks heights are thrilling and loves to climb up to high places and look down, pondering on life. She's always scared of catching sick and dying. Any kind of sickness. The way she loves life, she never wants to die. Kel likes smaller animals like small dogs and cats and especially birds too, but not large animals. They make her a bit skitterish, even if they are perfectly harmless.
Kelandry is good at hiding her feelings. In fact, her face is almost always blank, if she's angry or sad she hides it inside and tells no one. She has almost no patience though, and sometimes it costs her a lot. Kel is also a natural born leader and very brave-well, most of the time at least. She is never shy, in fact most of the time far to outspoken. She also has a tendancy to get in trouble.
Description: Kel is 5 feet tall at age ten and growing. She has a fairly skinny body. Mousy, long brown hair often in braids falls down her back to match beautiful, shining, light blue eyes. She doesn't have to much muscle but it doesn't hurt her, she doesn't need to be very strong to be a mage.
Type of Magic: Kel has weather magic. She can control the weather, make it very windy, make it rain, things like that.
Sample Post: Kel had to restrain herself hard not to gigle as she slipped a frog into the pocket of a nearby student. She had picked up the frog a bit earlier and kept it in her pocket. Now she wanted to cook up a little mischeif by putting it in someone else's pocket and she had. Still keeping from giggling she ran ahead to her next class, not able to wait for the victim to find the little gift she had left for him. (sorry, it's a bit short but I'm not feeling very creative at the moment... brain blank!)

Over all, she looks like an promising character, but I have a few questions to ask and some possible discrepancies I'd like to be cleared up.
History:
I don't know that Emelan really had divorce as we think of it today. I would think that spouses would seperate and fight out the matter of possessions between themselves. However, that is not a real issue; it's just me being picky.
You say she never shows emotion when she is hurt or angry. This seems unlikely in a child that would not know any other way to react than violence and shouting, since that is what her parents have shown her. Is she quiet in order to not attract attention to herself, and if so, why?
I'd like more information on this twin of hers. Is he also a mage? Did he ever try to find her when she ran away? Are they still in contact with each other?
How did this strange woman recognize her as a mage? Is she a mage herself, and took on a mentor role, or did she just happen to guess?
I'd also like a bit more information about her time at Winding Circle. Which areas of study does she excell at, and which pose more of a challenge? Is she well liked by the other students? What do her instructors think of her? What sorts of trouble has she gotten herself into? What are her plans after she recieves her medallion?
Details are what make or break a character.

Again, I don't understand how the emotionless factor fits in, if she is so outgoing and impatient.
Description:
You've described her as a ten year old. According to her age, she's fifteen.
What sorts of clothes does she wear?
Does she have any physical imperfections, such as acne, heavy eyebrows, a too pointy nose? Everyone has something they don't like about themselves.
At fifteen I would think she would be about done growing. I know I was.
Alright, I think that's enough for now. Don't worry, I'm not picking on you. I just want to make sure you've thought carefully about your character. |
