--OOC Info Nickname: Lily
--IC Info Name: Alex Marlaue Age: 17 Birthplace: Stepping Stone Islands
History: Alex Marlaue is the only child of Bridget, a daughter of chandlers, and Tyler Marlaue, a son of sailors. Originally, Bridget’s ancestors were of Namorn heritage and fled away from the harsh winters. First they had settled in Summersea for a fair amount of time, and eventually the family grew and soon split. One half staying, who have now been remembered on the fraying of time, and the other moving to the Stepping Stone Islands. On his father’s side is strictly from Summersea, one of the oldest families in Emelan.
Bridget met Tyler by complete accident when news was brought to her family that the shipment dates had been jumbled up and entrusted the candles shipment to their daughter. With haste Bridget had arrived at the port, and was greeted by one of the sailors to take her candles. She wasn’t very warm to him at first (after all, he was a sailor), but he was rather interested in her fair appearance, and dark hair. But his charms eventually warmed her up a bit as he continued to talk with her. Then it was Tyler who asked her for the address of her home, and seeing no harm in it (thinking he was just a lonely sailor), agreed.
Of course, they wound up become pen-pals for a long amount of time, Bridget always volunteering to bring the candles to port when she knew he would be in town. Eventually, Bridget started to fall for him, and once Tyler saw this, he jumped in to court her. She accepted and with some minor disagreements on long the way, the decided to be joined in marriage. Not wanting to tear his new wife away from her family, he opted to take up residence with her. A couple years later, when he was on a break from being a sailor, he came back to find a year old son nestled with his wife. Obvious thrilled, he began to sign up for the shorter trips in order to spend more time with Alex
Alex grew up with his father telling the young child of his experiences at sea. Parts of the story where nothing except fantasy alluding the real facts, but that didn’t bother the young member of the family as he was rather enthralled for a good part. To add, his father taught him many things about being on the sea. The young Marlaue almost thought that he wished to take up sea-faring as well come his tenth birthday. However, that was not what it was going to be. As he grew up, he started to wonder what it was really like. Were there really Pirates? What about the mermaids? But as he went to a simple town school to learn to read and write, the other kids for also mocked him these ideas and he let them win. He gave up the idea of being sailor, with some disappointment from his father.
Despite the sea-tales, he also heard of Winding Circle in Summersea from his father. He then wondered if he could go there. However, there was a small problem, he needed to have magic. So to stop the boy’s pestering to be at least tested, Bridget finally allowed. To everyone’s surprise, he did have some magic. So off to Winding Circle he went when he came in age. He eventually convinced himself that the life at sea was too hard, and that being a Dedicate would be even easier than candlestick making.
The first few years of his studies at Winding Circle consisted mostly of a lot of fooling around with his magic. Creating balls of water to hover over his victim, and eventually dump it on his peer’s heads, was his primary course of action. He also had a close knit of friends, who enjoyed being a prankster just as much as him. They are still friends, all they are all eventually going to be Dedicates of different temples, but they have awhile yet.
Personality: Alex seems to drum to his own cadence while at least trying to make a peace with others who do the same. He is an extrovert, more than ready to talk to a lonely person or jump into a lively group, but nevertheless he will always be the comedian he tries to be. His jokester antics seem to become less hesitant with a few drinks. Although he seems all for fun and games, he has a bit of a laid back attitude, sometimes unmotivated. Why work when you can relax? If it was his way, the perfect utopia would be sleeping, eating, drinking, and the occasional easy labor. Teenage hormones will not have it that way some times, as to him, the quickest way to solve the problem of one who insults is to simply punch them.
As for his drinking habits, he is more experimental with them than addicted. It isn’t a horrible addiction; rather he likes the feel of a loose tongue and the giddiness that comes along with being tipsy. He is rather surprised by how much he drinks depends on how much he remembers of the night before and how misshaped he feels afterwards. Alex also has a curiosity streak that has landed him in punishments at the temple and at home. It never really seems satisfied until his questions are fully answered. Normally with this curiosity is the need to touch everything with his hands, even if a sign or if he was told specifically not too.
As of now, he has absolutely no weapon skills, and isn’t all that remotely interested, finding his fists are just fine. Even though his father, the sailor, has been repeating trying to convince his son that a little weapon defense is good for everyone. The one skill he did learn before being wisped away to his studies was how to tie sailor knots, navigate, and swim. His father also taught him the parts of a ship and some sailor terms that he will use once in awhile. Most of this is seemingly unneeded information, which has somehow kept up with him these seven years. As a side note, he is still growing, and thus still has a large fondness for… a lot of food.
Description: Slovenly, cocoa brown hair falls above the boy’s head as it skimmed across his eyebrows. His skin is an olive hue, fighting away the last of blemishes under his chin, where he had supported his head in the most boring of classes. Almond shaped eyes of a slate blue are well enough alive and healthy. The teenager’s form is tall and gangling, swaddled in the unloved ivory clothes of a novice, which he never can seem to keep clean. Although his age is almost of adulthood, his body and mind are not yet mature enough yet to face the trifling experiences of being by himself.
Type of Magic: Basically, he can manipulate water into any form he wishes, whether it be a ball of liquid to drop on someone, or making a strip of water to transport it from one place to another. There is a catch; he has problems with manipulation when it is the salt water in the sea, and the fresh water in rivers. Another spell he is working on is separating dirt particles from water, and purify salt water to make it less bitter. Eventually, he will be able to draw water out from plants (not that he would) and clothes.
Sample Post: Alex Marlaue sauntered into the bustling market place outside the protective walls of Summersea, his ivory robe rejecting the sunlight in a bothersome glare. He couldn’t wait until his novice years are over, and he can finally be adorned in the more colorful dyed robes of a Dedicate from the Water Temple. Wiggling his nose slightly, he went scratch around the skin of a certain blemish on his chin. His theory was if he didn’t directly irritate the acne, and rather the skin around, it would heal eventually. As he normally would he strolled down the main street of Summersea, take a few turns, and he would find himself at the Pebbled Sea. As his blue eyes looked out onto the mass of water, he wondered if he made the right choice. It certainly was easy, and not as much labor as a sailor. Why spend that much time anyways with all these other men with nothing but the boat and sea? Yes, his father had found love with his mum, Bridget, but that’s not a guarantee he would. He then nodded his head slowly, the brown hair bouncing with him. “Yes.” He told himself quietly, slipping off his shoes to feel the sand beneath his feet. “This is much easier.”
